Photograms
My next idea will involve photograms and the Dark-room. There are 2 things I can produce out of this. The first thing I could do with this is take photos of people on a film camera. I could either send the film off the be developed, or I could get it developed in school. Then the next thing I could do is enlarge the negatives onto photographic paper.
The 2nd thing I could do is go straight into making the images in the dark-room. This could be done by putting a certain section of the body onto the paper. Then developing it. However I feel the idea of taking photos on a film camera then enlarging them would be better. This is because if I use a film camera I can get full body shots, whereas in the dark-room. I can only get the face.
I believe this theme links to creative use of light because it would show me using the enlargers [light] in the darkroom to enlarge objects onto photographic paper.

Ray K. Metzker
Metzker was an American photographer who is mainly known for his landscape photography work. However the photo above caught my eye. I found this photo on the Tallis Arts Pinterest board, Creative Use of light. It will appear that in this. Metzker took photos of peoples bodies, developed the film, then enlarged them onto negatives. I could attempt this because I have a couple of film cameras at home. Also the film is fairly cheap to buy. And finally I don't need to send the film off to be developed and enlarged because we have a dark room at school.

Man RayMan Ray is probably the most famous photographer who used photograms. Ray called them Rayographs. He made photograms of objects that would form weird patterns. For example a roll of film, scissors, light bulbs, slinkys etc. Sometimes Man Ray would make a Rayograph of film that hasn't been exposed. Sometimes he used film that was already developed.

My photogram idea.
For this section, I want to make photograms in a different way. My idea is too expose objects onto a photogram. However I want the light source to come in from the side. I want to do this because I believe the photograms would look better like this. This is because I could have a glass being exposed all the way along the photogram.
To do this idea, I need to use a lamp or a torch as the light source. I need to do this because the objective of this idea is to play around with where the light comes from.

For this photo-shoot, I'm going to play around with the location of the lights. I'm going to be exposing see through objects onto photographic paper. Objects like bottles, light bulbs, plastic cups etc.
1st Attempt
In my first attempt, I decided to mainly use see through objects. For example light bulbs, water bottles, plastic cups etc. This attempt was mixed success. Some of these photograms came out very well. For example the one with the one with the plastic cup. However there were some photos that defiantly didn't go well. For example the one with the rectangle light bulb. The problem with this one was the white exposure at the bottom. I'm still not sure how that happened.
Favourite photogramOn the left is my favourite photogram from this set. The first thing that makes this photo my favourite is it's relevance to the idea. This photogram is relevant to the idea because I wanted to get an object to go up or along the photogram. This have been slightly achieved here because the plastic cup is around half way up the photogram. The 2nd thing I like about this photogram is the exposure. Look at the bottom of the cup, you can read the writing with ease [make out the letters]. This shows that this exposure was perfect and there wasn't shake from the light.

Least favourite photogramThis is my least favourite photo from the set. The first thing that I don't like about this is the exposure. This photogram has clearly been over-exposed because the entire photogram is practically in a whitey tone. The 2nd thing I don't like about this image is the objects. I feel that these objects are working in this photogram because I wanted the objects to be big in these photos. However I haven't really achieved a sense of scale in this because it looks like I've just put the bottle on its side. This was annoying because the water bottle was laid out the same way at the plastic cup was in the image above.

Edited images
I decided to edit some of these images. I decided to mainly make the images darker because that way the exposure should stand out more clearly.
Best edited image
Out of all of the edited images. This is the most improved one. The first thing I prefer about this image is the colour of it. I have made the image darker, this way 2 of the objects stand out. Also I hand to sacrifice the plastic cup. However I believe this has made the image better. This is because there is only a small line left. This adds the element of abstraction to this image. Another thing I like about this improvement is that the chess piece is easier to me.

Adam Fuss
After making these photograms. I believed that I need to look at a 3rd photographer who made photograms. I decided to look at British photographer Adam Fuss. This photographer was recommended to me by Ms Gibson. Fuss liked to make photograms of bodies, clothes, animals [rabbit] etc.

How could this be a final piece
On the right are a group of merged photograms. This is the main idea on how this could be a final piece. I could merge some of the best photograms together in photoshop, then after they are printed, I could possibly display them in a frame maybe. I could merge together some photograms that got the same object on them. However I will merge them together because each photogram will have the same object, but the light will be coming from different angles. I could do this with a plastic cup, a water bottle, or anything.

Next photogram idea
I have got another idea for photograms. My idea is a sought of multiple exposure photogram but I will do it in a different way. What I would do is set up the camera on a tripod to play the role of the light. When I have set up an object, I will fire the flash from the camera. Then next I will rotate the photogram, fire the flash again etc. Hopefully this should produce some good multiple exposures. A reason why I've decided to use a flash rather than a torch is because in the previous set of photograms, I struggled to hold the torch in the same place for the 4 second exposure. So I'm going to use the flash from the camera because it will be on a tripod and stable.
This is something that no one has tried before, so I'm venturing into the unknown with this idea.
