My Artist Statement
Ben Peters [1998, Blackheath London]
Ben Peters is a photographer who likes to see the world with a photographers eye. He loves to take image where focus is more important than the subject of the image. He sees things differently to other people. People would see a light, Ben would see a depth of field image.
His photos are displaying a POV of Bens life, wherever Ben goes, Ben takes his camera, whether it is a camera phone or a DSLR. Ben likes to use his photographic eye to his advantage. After taking photos Ben likes to sit down and look through his camera and decide what the best photos are and also what the worst ones are. This is because the worst mistake you can make in photography is deleting your mistakes. Ben likes to learn from his mistakes because after taking a bad image, he believes that this is something that I have done earlier then I was originally.
Ben like to experiment with his photographs, he isn't someone who just sees something and photographs it and moves on, he plans it, he composes it. Ben also likes to experiment with filters. Ben has got access to wide range of photography equipment and when ever Ben goes out to take photos, Ben goes prepared with the correct lenses, with the correct filters etc.
Ben Peters currently lives is Greenwich, London.

My Project Proposal
I'm interested in looking at the following ideas
- Openings - mirrors on the floor, open windows or doors- inspired by the work of Lee Friedlander, Ralph Gibson and a photo from Peter Fraser. I'm interested in this idea of the world opening up. I did this in GCSE photography and I would like to have another go at this idea of an Opening. I would like to use the formal element of colour in this theme. The opening would be colour, and the surrounding would be B&W. This board can help me with this idea.
- Focus - taking photos with a depth of field or fully out of focus, using the environment to determine the focus- inspired by the work of Uta Barth, Saul Leiter and John Batho. The breaking up of colour with an out-of-focus image. People being broken up by condesated windows. Focus is probably my most favourite aspect of photography, it is the thing that loads of amateur photographers forget about it. I actually like photos with a good depth of field.
